Osianama hosted a retrospective of Dilip Kumar and Marlon Brando films between 1-10 Dec 2015 at the renovated Liberty Cinema, Mumbai.
Went for Marlon Brando`s “On the Waterfront”, Elia Kazan`s masterpiece about crime and corruption on the docks in 1940`s America. The movie was a major hit and earned Brando`s his first Oscar after being nominated thrice in previous years – A Streetcar named Desire (1951), Viva Zapata (1952) & Julius Caesar (1953)
Altough the exhibition was billed as display of memorablia of both the actors hardly anything connected to Brando was displayed except a few letters and posters. On the other hand there was treasure of posters (all hand painted !!!), cutouts and lobby cards relating to Dilip Kumar from some of his biggest hits like Mughal-E-Azam which had a whole section dedicated to it. It was also the opening movie for the festival on 1st Dec with Saira Banu as the chief guest.
